Bentley Mulsanne Speed ‘Blue Train’
Bantley je pokazao posebno izdanje (ljepše zvuči od "ograničena serija") Mulsanne Speed-a i nazvao ga Blue Train.
Blue Train trke su bile trke koje su se održavale između vozova i automobila kasnih 20-ih i ranih 30-ih godina prošlog vijeka. A Speed Six je u to vrijeme stigao, sa Woolf Barnatoom, u klub u Londonu prije nego je Blue Train (nadimak za Calais-Mediterranée Express) stigao do La Manche-a. Opklda u sto tadašnjih funti sterlinga je bila da će doći do Londona prije nego voz iz Cannesa dođe do Calaisa (do Londona je trebalo preći 1.340 km).
Blue Train je napravila Bentleyeva Mulliner divizija vodeći se, koliko je to moguće, izgledom originala Speed Sex, i evo rezultata na slici. Napravit će (ručno) svega četiri primjerka.
This new special edition is inspired by Captain Woolf Barnato’s win over the ‘Blue Train’ as the Calais-Mediterranée Express was nicknamed in 1930, driving a Speed Six to his club in London before the train even reached the English Channel.
Built by Bentley’s bespoke Mulliner division, the ‘Blue Train’ editions feature “delightful historical references and modern interpretations of design details from the original Speed Six”. These include a fine crafted veneer image of the original Speed Six on the dashboard’s wooden trim and a square mesh design on the front grille, inspired by the same car.
Richard Charlesworth, Head of the Bentley Heritage Collection, comments: “The Blue Train is one of the most famous and celebrated cars in the world, and it perfectly embodies the racing spirit of the Bentley. Woolf Barnato was a three-time Le Mans victor, but winning the Blue Train race captured the public’s imagination, and fuelled the legend of the Bentley Boys. By beating the Calais-Mediterranée Express he forever guaranteed the Speed Six’s place in automotive history.”
Bentley says a total of just four examples will be hand-crafted in Crewe.
